PLF4C ~ Grade 12 (Co-Ed) Recreation and Fitness Leadership, College Preparation

This course focuses on the development of leadership and co-ordination skills related to recreational activities.  Students will acquire the knowledge and skills to plan, organize and implement recreational events.  They will also learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well being and personal safety to others through mentoring and peer helping.  Students learn to run tournaments and to run programs relating to co-operative games with students from feeder schools.  In both team and individual sports, teamwork, theory and refereeing are stressed.  Outside components of this course include curling, high rope courses, and outdoor rock climbing.  In class instruction includes tournament structure, communication, leadership styles, and dealing with stress.  The course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure and fitness leadership.  NOTE: Prerequisite is any grade 11 or 12 open course in health and physical education.

PSE4U ~ Grade 12 (Co-Ed) Exercise Science, University Preparation

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development.  Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual's participation in physical activity.  The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.  NOTE: Prerequisite is any grade 11 or 12 open course in health and physical education.

PPBOA ~ OAC Kinesiology, University Preparation

This course focuses on the study of the human body in motion.  Anatomy, physiology and biomechanics are studied.  Human development and motor learning as well as the significance of physical fitness for a healthy moving body are also examined.  Sport and its relationship to society are also analyzed.  This course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.  NOTE: Prerequisite is a senior physical education credit.
