Charity News

Interest in charity at ECI has never been higher.  We started off the year with an exceptional committee of over 60 students, and we thought to ourselves “What are we going to do with all these kids?”  So far, the year has been extremely successful--our biggest events were the CN Tower Stair Climb, the Food Drive and the Christmas Party for children in the community.

Our greatest accomplishment to date is raising the most money and having one of the largest teams in the CN Tower Stair Climb for United Way.  Over 115 students, Mr. Ellis, Mr. Stratton and several parents met at Royal York station.  Chants of E-T-O-B-I-C-O-K-E were deafening as the mob of green and gold moved south towards the 1,800 steps of the world's tallest free-standing structure.  We conquered the tower with pride, athleticism and a whole lot of spirit.

A new tradition at ECI is the Christmas Party for the kids in the community.  It was held in our cafeteria and showed unprecedented support by student leaders, teachers, and community members.   Some activities run by the student executives in the school included making gingerbread men, pictures with Santa, puppet-shows, crafts and much more.  The kids had a great time and were very appreciative of our hard work.

Volunteering is a great way to gain job experience, get your mandatory volunteer hours, give back to the community and have fun.  Anyone interested in volunteering in the community can find positions in the volunteer binder that is located in Student Services.

Some upcoming events to look forward to are the United Way Week and the infamous Charity Talent Show where all proceeds will go towards sponsoring a child from a third world country.

Thanks for your continuing support.  We are looking forward to the second half of the year!
