Like a secret cult, they gather every other Tuesday at the crack of
dawn. Evil laughter can be heard echoing the halls as they pool their
ideas and come up with plans for world domination!! OK ... so that isn’t
really what happens at Council of Councils meetings, but I got your attention,
didn’t I? Comprised of the exec members of various school clubs and
committees, this super council is where the sharing and discussion of new
ideas occurs.
Some of the upcoming events to look forward to that were mentioned
at the Dec. 11 meeting included candy sales in the caf to raise money for
the FAT, another round of school sweatshirt sales courtesy of the Athletic
Council, the Semi-Formal on February 8th at Pavilion Royale, as well as
the formation of an Earth Club.
The relatively unheard of committee, The Ontario Secondary School
Students Association (OSSSA) was also brought up. This is a provincial
association dedicated to addressing issues that concern Ontario high school
students. With monthly meetings as well as a leadership getaway (scheduled
for Feb. 28-Mar 3), this is a great opportunity to meet new people and
have a say in matters that concern you. Contact Sarah Claire for
more info.
Another topic of interest to many is the whereabouts of our 2000
- 2001 yearbook, The Etobian! Despite much effort to have it distributed
in reasonable time, its release date is still unknown. The good news
is that this year’s committee is guaranteeing our possession of the 2001
- 2002 Etobian by June!
Plans for an Awards Committee as well as a leadership banquet
was also made, although they are still in the very early stages of planning.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated event presented at the Council
of Councils meeting was Arts Alive! Slated for April 2002, it is
to be the first time ECI’s art students can showcase their work to the
public in a fun & entertaining format. With an emphasis on talent
and curriculum, featured areas would include drama, videography, music
and fine art. The aim of this event is to create a spectacular school
tradition showcasing the amazing artistic talent our school has to offer!
Those were just a handful of the numerous upcoming activities
and events at ECI. Each Council of Councils meeting generates more
ideas and finalizes existing plans, so stayed tuned for another update
of news and more exciting events in the next issue of the Rampage.
