We all know what a great place ECI is, but who says we can’t make
it better? What I am trying to do here today is make you see the
greatness and importance of school spirit and involvement. What better
way is there to get involved with your beloved school than to join a club?
Clubs and committees have for many years been the glue that holds
a school together, the peanut butter between two slices of bread, the gum
between your shoe and the floor. You get my drift. Anyway,
as I was saying, we should all be trying our hardest to find some way to
urge others to have some fun and join a club. Over the years, our
school has been the foundation of many successful clubs run by people like
you. Examples are the various orchestras, the Debating Club, Earth
Club, Prefects, Fashion Shows, ECI Rampage, FAT, the oh so famous “Short
Steps”, and the list goes on. All you need to do is come up with
an idea, and before you know it you will be the president of ECI’s next
best thing. The second step would be to advertise your idea and try
to entice a teacher to be a supervisor of some sort. Most teachers
would be more than willing to help out, because we all know that our teachers
are the best. Right? So collect your friends, come up with
a great idea, and put it into action!
The one thing that has always amazed me is that all throughout
my high school career, our school has never had a ski or snowboard club.
Many other schools participate in ski and snowboard trips annually and
personally, I think we should cash in on the hefty loads of the snow that
we so gratefully receive each winter. This year, I am proud to announce
that the ECI Snowboard Club is under construction as we speak. We
are currently trying to find a teacher to accompany us on these ever-so-exciting
day or night trips to mountains all over Ontario. If you are a teacher
and are interested in taking part, just let me know. If you are a
student and are interested in helping us out, come on down. The more,
the merrier! And that goes for all clubs and committee in the school.
The key to high school success is involvement. So get involved, join
a club!
