Co-op Career Fair,

On February 8th the ECI Co-operative Education Department hosted the Co-op Career Fair and Co-op Employers’ Appreciation Breakfast as part of the curriculum.

Each co-op students prepared a display reflecting work experience from the co-op placement. ECI classes, teachers and co-op employers were in attendance at this showcase of careers.

The students began arriving at 7:00 a.m. and started setting up the displays for all to view. With over 120 exhibits there was a display to appeal to everyone’s interests. The variety of displays was endless, ranging from research to food preparation.

The principal, Mr. Ellis welcomed co-op students, teachers and co-op employers and reminded the audience of the unique opportunities that a co-op work experience offers the students as well as the business community. He also reflected on the co-op visits that he made this year in aeronautical engineering, sociological family disease, pedigree research, and breast cancer microbiology research. The employers were thanked for giving their time and effort to the young people in the co-op program at ECI.

Invitations were provided to each co-op employer to attend an appreciation breakfast prior to the career fair. The employers were recognized with a gift and were invited to view the displays while having breakfast with their student host. Over ninety employers and special guests were in attendance. Co-op students, staff, and 1000 ECI students viewed the displays throughout the morning.

The experience for students was a memorable one, because it allowed them to communicate with other class members and discuss their learning experiences while working in their co-op placement. It also gave them the opportunity to view displays and see all the job opportunities their fellow classmates experienced and examine potential careers to enter upon graduation.
